Dafatan!!!!

Things happen in life “all of a sudden”. I have fallen in love with the word ‘Dafatan’ so beautifully put in the lyrics of ‘ Dil gira dafatan’ from the stunningly inspiring album “Delhi 6”. The search for the meaning of some words will give you a different perspective of the songs which you have already heard. “Delhi 6” is a surprise package. An unbelievably brilliant album that captures almost all genres of music.. All moods and all emotions. Just a perfect blend any music lover would love to keep as a priceless possession.

“Dil Gira dafatan” and “Rehna Tu” have got the very ‘Rahmanish’ unconventional patterns and flow where you just fail to understand the structure unless you hook onto it for a million times. They are just fantabulous. Shreya will just amaze us with her magical “Bhor Bhaye” a pure classical rendition and 'Arziyan' has a great amount of divinity attached to it.

Mohit Chauhan’s versatility has been unveiled in “Masakali” and the song title is attributed to the white pigeon in the movie which symbolizes peace and freedom according to the Director of the movie. The title track is very attractive and no doubts that ARR magic will keep our flag flying high in the years to come. He is a blessed soul!! Handpicked and showered with talents by the Almighty!! Prasoon Joshi has raised the bar with his awesome lyrical talents and Urdu as a language is wowing me time and again.

Looks like the two years wait after “Rang De Basanti” was really worth it. Music does possess some magical powers. If you have music in your life you don't need to have anything else, and if you don't have it, it doesn't matter much what else you have. Even when am jotting down these thoughts I have “Dil gira dafatan” playing into my ears and hitting my senses hard …giving me that solace and comfort that we all long for at times.

Always expect the unexpected in life…almost all the best things came to me at least happened when I was least expecting them. But can’t disagree with Mark Twain when he says “A thing long expected takes the form of the unexpected when at last it comes”. “Delhi 6” is a worth a trillion bucks and much more than words could ever say!!!

“Music takes us out of the actual and whispers to us dim secrets that startle us, make us wonder as to who we are, and for what, whence, and where to.”

Solitude!!!

Heard from an old school friend after a long time today and had this huge emotional turmoil .. all the events just flashed in front of my eyes.. and yes I had a total 360 degree review of my life. Those times when you are ruled over by your emotions and reason doesn’t appear anywhere close to you. 'Loneliness' expresses the pain of being alone.. but yes.. we do have the much glorified 'Solitude' that indeed is the GLORY of being alone. We all need this space at times. The time and space all of us need to go through a Catharsis- the cleansing process... We all need this solitude...in love..in friendship..in every relationship!!!

"You will get over it.. it is the clichés that cause the trouble" the saying is true by all means. Kahlil Gibran is one of the very few authors whom I have read.. He in his creation'Madman' once said..." I will have both freedom and safety in my madness..the freedom from being understood.. the safety of being alone..." this kinds of sums up all the much felt feelings reappearing every now and then... Some songs also kind of capture this much talked about Solitude. One which comes to my mind first if 'Tanhayee' from Dil Chahta He..one of my favourite movies of all times...

Just right kind of picturisation renders life and depth to the message the song is trying to convey..Sonu Nigam just amazes me every time with his soulful voice and unbelievable feel. The lyrics of this one just stands out with every single word complementing the other... and the end result was one fantabulous song..

For all those relations that all of us lost at some juncture.. this one is for all of them…

"Loneliness is never more cruel than when it is felt in close propinquity of someone who has ceased to communicate.."

Shadows...!!!!!

In life’s long journey you take different paths..some frequently trodden paths..some less trodden ones.. and often I have ended up taking the less trodden path…. But the journey till date has been quite eventful…a time comes when you pause your life for a while and rewind your journey..you see so many phases..but each phase you have encountered with someone.. thinking that you will be having them with you throughout your journey..but realize sooner or later that they are nothing but walking shadows.. they just come and go… leaving no foot prints..

You wait..till the right person comes along.. and when it happens you just know it… Ghulam Ali’s “Husn-e-ghazal” had such a song in it .. “Tamam Umr Bhar Tera Intezar humne Kiya” conveys a million messages that many of us fail to express.. all those words dying to come out.. all those emotions and feelings.. all captured into one single song. That is the song for you….

The best version of it apart from the original I heard in Najim’s voice (Asianet Idea Star Singer 2007 winner and my kid brother JK’s friend). He has done a marvelous job and the blessed voice has done total justice to the original…Its just FANTABULOUS

Hafeez Hoshiyaar’S lyrics gives life to the soul stirring rendition… a journey of a life time.. you love some ..you hate some..you win some..you lose some..but the one beautiful precious journey of life… I have read somewhere “Life doesn’t always give you the people you want; instead it gives you the people whom you need to teach you..to hurt you..to love you..to make you exactly the way you should be..”

I am glad I too encountered with some walking shadows..I will be grateful to them forever.. coz of them I know the worth of the precious ones I have… I have learnt to let go off them..and to dream of a new sunrise..
“In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't.”

When silence speaks!!!

This empty feeling happens to me quite often. I am sure each one of us goes through this sometime at least. When you just fail to communicate..when you feel talking doesn’t really seem to help. A time when I usually cling on to my songs and start breathing fresh air; pull up my socks to get things back on track...I hate to sulk..I hate spreading lousiness around.. I realize my people (even though much clichéd) love my 70mm smile aka evil grin or whatever… lol. Music and silence go really well. Music is done with silence and silence is so full of music

Even though I never got an opportunity to watch this movie, one particular song caught my attention the very first time I listened to it. “ Kaatrin Mozhi” from the Tamil movie ‘Mozhi’..the very beauty of its lyrics. The subtle rendition with not much of jazz in the background…the attention given to every minute detail… it’s totally a ‘WOW’ song… even when I am writing this, my colleague/ guide/ personalized Google desktop/Rahul reminded me what a miss it was.. “You have not seen the movie??You must!!” So am going to...asap

Silence has a divinity attached to it…. it does speak volumes. When words fail to express your deepest of thoughts. When you just feel you can be there just by being silent.. when you fail to be there no matter how much ever you try.. when you feel all this together.. This one song goes for all those people whom I might have hurt knowingly/unknowingly..by talking (most of the times) and by be being silent (at times) and yes I don’t want to ruin an apology with an explanation.

When I went for my long spell of solitude to different places away from home...shuttling hostels and emotions.. I had this silence within me which was kept safely locked. Even I wish to understand the language of the gentle breeze that is drying the tears on my cheeks.. the language of the wind.. of the sky..of the sea..the language of heart!!! Mark Twain put in right “The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause.”

“Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the soul.”

And then..silence prevailed!!!

Like each one of you out there.. even I felt miserable.. felt lost and hassled.. things are such right now!! With all channels time and again glorifying the terror..piercing into the unknown depths of all those who lost their dear and near ones.. many others who got affected.. traumatized..scared and all that. Something unfortunate which spilt the suffocating truth.. Are we really safe at home??

I can’t exactly say “I know how it feels like” because I really don’t.. I can just feel how I would have felt if I were there in any one of their places instead. That very thought itself is disheartening. Some songs depict certain situations just right.. this particular song from the climax scene of the much liked movie “Bombay” by the legend Mani Ratnam is one such song. Someone rightly said “Music creates order out of chaos: for rhythm imposes unanimity upon the divergent, melody imposes continuity upon the disjointed, and harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous”

Again, I have no intentions of digging deep into the much more disturbing concerns… just a silent protest..a token of respect and tribute to all those ..I am trying to find peace within myself..so that I can be one such person who can live at peace with others.. "Hope".. I feel is the most exciting thing here. Never am I compromising on that. The much clichéd “Let’s hope for a better tomorrow” still makes a lot of sense to me. I still see that one day when all this will come together..what all of us have wished for has finally come to be..

“Live this day as if it will be your last. Forget yesterday's defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, ''If I had my life to live over again. ''Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day! Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again…. There is no way to peace, peace is the way.”

Memories!!!!

One of those days when you sit back and think about your journey through life till date.. Sometimes you reach that turning point in your life when you realize there is going to be a major change that will change your course of living.. it is when you usually relive your memories..your journey... This one is for all those moments which have shaped up my life and moulded the person I am today.. sometimes you realize life Is going to change and there is going to be a new meaning attached to it sometime soon.. when you bring back all those years spent with and without your people.. holding all those memories so close to heart..you live your life

This particular song from the Malayalam movie “Kakkothikavile Appuppanthadikal” just will press your rewind button and you just wish to go back and live all those moments once again… well, there is no harm in wishing. Chithra chechi’s soul stirring rendition has always got my eyes wet…and the video is equally brilliant… we all grow up…and just don’t find time to look back..sometimes I wish how we can just freeze childhood and we will have bonsai models everywhere lol silly me!

The movie is also so close to my heart. It just brings along with it a wide array of emotions and a different meaning to relationships…someone once said..“I have more memories than if I were a thousand years old….” It is so true ..every day is an experience..Every day teaches you something..takes away something from your life..but springs in a lot of surprises. I am at such a stage where I’m thoroughly amused by the interesting encounters..I too live my memories which have become a part of my happiness.

Sometimes, no matter how much faith we have, we lose people…we miss out on a lot of things.. But you never forget them. And sometimes, it's those memories that give us the faith to move on…the strength to persevere.. The past may be gone forever..and whatever the future holds for you and me, our todays make the memories of tomorrow…

“I've learned that good-byes will always hurt, pictures will never replace having been there, memories good and bad will bring tears, and words can never replace feelings.”

The precious wake up call !!!

It was my birthday..was having this argument of growing old or young going on in my mind for long.. managed getting some sleep at about four in the morning…after the cake cutting spree. it was then at around seven my phone rang and got up into my ‘special’ day with someone singing happy birthday to me sweetly.. the sleepy me didn’t even realize till the moment she said.. “Molee Chithra chechi this side…” and I jumped out of my bed the next second..lol :)

Surprises..who doesn’t like surprises. Even I do..I am sure all of you out there also love them..K S Chithra!!!She is one precious human being. The versatile one out here who I once wished that will adopt me sometime.. so gentle..polite and down to earth.. sweetest to the core that she bothered to introduce herself to me.. That was one wonderful call which will be cherished for the rest of my life. Time and again I am thanking Mejo ettan for bringing such surprises along .. :) :)

I have always adored her for whatever she is..have got inspired..have looked up to her and cherished every single word I heard from her. Can list a million songs by her here…but yeah the most favourite ones remain

That was one memorable day.. and yeah can’t begin to thank all the special people who made it that way..Mejo ettan, Vaava, Shinoy, Govind, Sujith, Manu, luttumon, gulfu, Indu and all the special calls I received just coz of Mejo ettan.. Chithra chechi, Srinivas sir etc etc.. sometimes life gives you enough reasons to look back and cherish every moment you have lived…some people teach you not to regret your yesterdays and not to fear your tomorrows..but to live your today and make the most of it.. This one is for one such person..someone so precious and unique....so special and thoughtful..caring and all that :):):) a total package!!!!

“One day at a time--this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering.”
